Make your own wearable animal or bird mask from recycled materials and mudroc (plaster of paris strips) in three two hour evening sessions at the atmospheric, medieval Old Sun Inn in Saffron Walden, Essex.
As well as making my own sculptures and assemblages I have worked in TV departments and film making props and I will guide you through easy construction techniques to help you create your own animal masks like the tawny owl (made by my talented student Nancy) and my barn owl shown here.
I wore my owl to the Black Shuck folk festival in Bungay, and it's also perfect for general mystical revelry, wassailing and decoration.
If you've clicked on this link you're not alone in wanting a realistic animal mask - the workshop was created after many requests made at the Legendary Essex folklore exhibition this September, so join a group of like minded creatives of all and any ability to make yours!
Bring a photo reference or drawing of what you would like to achieve, all construction materials will be provided, and soft drinks.

Monday 19th January 7-9pm
Workshop 1 - Design and making the main structure
Monday 26th January 7-9pm
Workshop 2 - Strengthening the design, creating details and beginning decoration
Monday 2nd February 7-9pm
Workshop 3 - Completing your mask design using tissue, paint, varnish and photographing and wearing our creations !
*This is a 3 week course but if you can only attend two of the dates - there is the option to choose two dates.
